What is adaptation? Some animals remain and stay active in the winter. They must adapt to the changing weather. Many make changes in their behavior or bodies. To keep warm, animals may grow new, thicker fur in the fall. On some animals, the new fur is white to help them hide in the snow. They collect food in summer and fall and save it for later others eat different things like twigs and moss that is around in the winter. Animals find shelter in trees, underground, or under rocks.
Discuss what adaptation is and what animals adapt in winter: weasels, snowshoe rabbits, squirrels, mice, beavers, deer, and red fox.
